Syfy: Imagine Greater

There are some completely fantastic station identification pieces at Motionographer, for the newly re-branded Syfy channel.

Syfy's name change has had plenty of critics, but these motion pieces may betray a new identity crisis in the making. The purple gloop is promising, but if you didn't know the history of the brand and only had these visuals to go on, you might mistake the confetti for Syfy: The Birthday Party Network, the paper folding for Syfy: The Origami Station, and the flowers for Syfy: Yet Another Lifestyle Channel.

There's a trailer for the station that combines all of the above, and throws in Escher-style staircases, Lou Diamond Philips, and a T-Rex. A combination that is perfectly, appropriately weird.

Absolutely Stunning visual style, brilliantly executed. However, there's something a little 'washing powder commerical' about it all that doesn't give any indication of what SyFy actually is. Would be interesting to see how they work in-situ of the channel's show roster.

Mother of God, they are breath-taking. Beautifully done. There isn't a frame of it that I wouldn't want to eat, wear, make love to or take on holiday.

Wow i like this a lot! I love the creative slant on typography. It shows a whole range of abilities with one graphic. Its a very cleaver way of demonstrating your abilities just at a glance you can see this company know there stuff about design, illustration, 3D work, photography and marketing. Very very cleaver, unusual and beautiful.

Yes, they're pretty. But it doesn't make up for a truly horrendous and offensive re-branding. "Syfy" indeed... as a dedicated nerd, I say bah!

well done! but yes its too well done since it's not readable in places. guess it should have been a bit more readable.
