VW Ads Un-pimp Your Ride

So hilarious. Check out the new Volkswagen ads (3 at the bottom of the page) featuring a Dr. Evil-style German engineer and his sexy sidekick, giving over-pimped cars the GTI treatment. I can't stop watching them. "Ooh - Snap"! Presumably by VW's agency CP+B.

Comments

Those are classic already! Imagine how these ads would be if Like Crispin Porter did this work instead.
At Like Crispin Porter we create work that is like Crispin Porter's work. Of course Like Crispin Porter is not exactly the same as Crispin Porter. We don't have clients. Or an office. Or a staff. In that sense I guess we could have called ourselves Like Grey Worldwide Canada. But we didn't. Because we're Like Crispin Porter.

'Ooh, snap' and 'It's definitely sucking' are my favorite lines. Love the commercials and can't stop watching them. I went to their site and the car is awesome, definitely on my wish list. VW, German engineering in the house, y'all !!!

They are very catchy and well written! Good job to whomever may have written the script! It;s very... interesting!

Best ad idea since we had 'Joe Isuzu' around. I also think this guy in the ads was on "Seinfeld" episode where George was trying to move the Frogger game macine without losing its power supply. Who is the female, though?

Just wanted to give credit where due... the German wannabe in the VW commercials is the same guy from Fargo and that Seinfeld episode. Also many other great pieces of work. His name is Peter Stormore... he is great in these commercials, I love it!

The unpimp your ride spots are honestly the worst ads I have seen in a very long time. Just bad, predictable work. Wanted more from Crispen. Definitely a disappointment. VW's marketing director (from Mini) should be at the very least, unpimped.

Yup, for those of us who ask 'WTF?' when we see a massive wing grafted to a Civic, or wonder why you need a six inch exhaust pipe for a piss 1.6 liter wheeze box. These morons try to race my real German car... silly.

Until the road opens and they decide 125 mph is too fast. My car sits... theirs don't.

I too love these commercials. "The German Guy" as you guys are calling him IS hilarious. It was even more funny to me when The Big Labowski came on tv yesterday and "The German Guy" was on there. Ironically, he talked the same and offered the same since of German pimp humor. Check it out if you missed it.

Although these ads are funny, in the end they perpetuate a stereotype of Germans as being foolish, eccentric and frivolous - as though they were all like Mike Myers in the SNL 'Sprockets' skit.

For me this doesn't sell me on Volkswagen's products, and seems to be disrespectful to the brilliant German engineers who design their cars. Just my opinion...
