Collectable Typorati

Nothing says ‘pure type geek’ like a collection of vintage specimen sheets, dog-eared Letraset catalogs, and a pile of first-run Fuse posters littering the studio. Have I got a deal for you… Yves Peters and David John Earls are auctioning off Typographer.org Booklet No. 200 - a lovingly prepared tome, silk-screened of cover, limited in edition, signed by eleven designers whose recent and imminent typefaces grace the spreads. I'm fortunate to already own a numbered copy, but it’s not autographed by the typorati. Proceeds from the auction will support SOTA and ATypI. Only a few days remain. Get your bid on now.

How did type geeks come to differ so greatly from other common geek species? Just the words 'dog-eared' are enough to send shivers down the spine of yr average comic geek (protective mylar sleeves and acid-free backing boards - get with the program!) And allowing first-run anything to 'litter the studio'? Blasphemy.

However, I did detect the presence of few common geeks traits: ebay obsession and a proclivity for casually mentioning the ownership of numbered originals...

You read me like a cheap novel, Pamela. Obsessive-compulsive to a fault. Mind you, my undisplayed 'piles' of first-run items are meticulously stored in flat files or on alphabetized shelves in the home office.

Too bad it's only available to Belgium. :(

Never fear Sarah... even though the auction is based in Belgium, the kind folks at Typographer.org are willing to ship the booklet anywhere in the world. If you can't sign into your eBay account using the auction link in the article, try this one instead. The auction details state that the shipping method specified in the auction is available in Belgium. That doesn't mean it can't be shipped anywhere else. Shipping will just need to be calculated separately.

Oh dear, I do hope not too many people will be misled by the Belgian eBay auction site and think it's only available to Belgium. I originally tried to sign up on an English-language eBay, but every time I entered my physical address they frickin' redirected me to eBay Belgium. Drove me nuts! My sincere apologies for the confusion; there's nothing I could do about it.

So people, really, I will ship to anywhere in the whole wide world. I did so with the "standard" copies and I will do so with this extremely exclusive copy. Just get your bids in, and remember it's for a good cause. :^)

What I discovered when I first attempted to bid on the Belgium site was that it wouldn't accept my eBay login. Once I signed in on the eBay.com site, I could then search for the item number and go ahead. It's a bit strange the way eBay has the international auctions hooked into the whole system.
