Congratulations to J.D. Busch!

The winner of the grand prize in our Take A Picture contest was J.D. Busch of Plano, Texas. He reproduced the Veer logo in the corner of his garage using a perspective trick – the logo extends from near the camera all the way to the back wall, and can only be viewed in perfect proportion from a precise low angle.

See a video that showcases the work that went into J.D.'s entry (not a part of his official entry, but a great behind-the-scenes view he was kind enough to provide), plus a gallery of all the eligible submissions on the results page.

You can also participate in the final contest, where you're the judge! Rate the entries from 1 to 5 (by clicking the stars) to help choose which of the 10 runners-up will receive $500 to spend on Veer merch. The contest closes at 11:59 PST, Thursday, November 12, and we'll announce the winner on Friday.

*** UPDATE ***
The deadline has been extended to 11:59 PST, Monday, November 16.

you know he used paper, not masking tape.. right?

nice to know that you thought his medium was something else... and that it was a video and not even a photo.

Thanks so much guys! And to explain: in my submitted e-mail, all I had was the picture attached, per the rules. I also included a link to a mini-site that had an explanation to the picture, since what I designed was a 3-dimensional application and something that couldn't be completely explained in a 2-dimensional picture. My goal was for the judges to see the picture and want to know more. There was nothing in the rules that said do NOT submit any supporting information. Any good design has more to the story than a picture, so that's what I tried to capture. Kudos to all of the other entries, there's some killer stuff in there, and I got lucky enough to win - I knew the competition would be top notch!

Rest assured, the judges recognized that JD's creation was an elaborate and difficult perspective trick at first glance. We've featured similar illusions before, such as this wayfinding system in Melbourne: http://ideas.veer.com/skinny/post/2571

And as JD said above, the video and link were supplementary and not part of the official entry. However, because it exists, and because it shows the extent of his hard work, we think most people will enjoy the behind-the-scenes view.

I had never seen anything like this before and think it is WAY cool! I hope someone will explain how it is done. Is a shadow projected as a guide? Is it all perspective MATH (shutter the thought). I'd like to try this small scale like on a folded card.

Crossing my fingers that the bemoaning of a few doesn't spoil this fantastic opportunity to learn!

I am a little disheartened with the winning selection. Although the concept of using perspective to project images against multiple three dimensional planes can be very interesting and appropriately applied, it is not in this case. First, I question the location. What does a garage and all the junk in the garage have to do with Veer? The location for the installation is a major decision and could have reinforced the concept. Second, I am finding it hard to consider this entry creative versus many other entries. There have been many similar installations of this concept throughout the world, one of which has been previously featured on Veer. Where is the creativity? In the end, I find this entry to be, at most, a visual trick. There were many other entries that were more creative, skillful and captivating. For the record, I did not submit an entry.

That was just SICK! At first glance, it looked like a PS trick, but then I realized what I was looking at. After watching the video, it confirmed that your entry took a LOT of planning and preparation. Yes, it was different from most other entries, but I think that is what made it stand out from the pack. Great job....

JD, There are going to be haters, critics, wannabees and "Spaitz6's" your whole life. You thought outside the box. I am honored to be able to be one of the top 10 and I can see why the judges picked you. Good Job.

THANK YOU Veer & Veer Employees
for all the work you did to make these contests possible. You guys created a fun + creative atmosphere where lots of cool works were made & lots of fun creative people came together! I feel bad for the few people who have left negative comments. They just didn't "get it" and that's too bad, because all the rest of us had a lot of fun!

CONGRATS to grand prize winner JD Busch for creating the best work among many great works!
Enjoy your well deserved prize. Looking at the high quality of the runners up entries, competition was really tough up there at the top.

EVERYONE, REMEMBER TO RATE THE RUNNERS UP: http://ideas.veer.com/features/takeapicture/vote
Based on our ratings a runner up is gonna win a $500 shopping spree at the Veer Merchandise store (& there's so much cool stuff there: http://www.veer.com/products/merch/) -cheryl
