Contest #24: “Newsworthy”

Do you love playing with type? Are you up on your current events? This week we're asking you to create a type sample based on current events. Find an article online about something interesting or offbeat, then choose a typeface and create a type specimen that represents the article.

We've been doing a similar thing over the past few months with Kerned Events, so feel free to check out the gallery for over a hundred examples – like this one about the skinniest building in Greenwich Village and this one about a prank zombie contingency plan.

Entries will be judged and the 5 best type specimens will win $199 subscriptions for Veer Marketplace. You can enter this contest as many times as you want.

------------------------------------

How to participate:

1. Search online for an interesting or offbeat news article.

2. Create a type specimen that interprets, sums up, or pokes fun at the news article.

3. Host your image wherever you like (Flickr, TwitPic, Veer Ideas, etc.).

4. Sign up or sign in to your free Veer Ideas account.

5. Post the URL of your image here, in the comments section of this post, along with the headline & link to the article you chose.

Having trouble signing in? See the first comment below, for help.

------------------------------------

Entries will be judged on sheer creativity! Also, how well your type sample relates to the news story. Your specimen can include words from the article, but doesn't have to. You can use any typeface you like – it doesn't need to be one that Veer sells. You have until next Thursday (October 15th, 11:59pm PDT) to enter. We'll announce and post the five winners here and on Twitter (VeerUpdate) on Friday.

For more information and eligibility requirements, visit the contest page.

Good luck and have fun!

Comments

Remember, folks! You need to be signed in to your Veer Ideas account before you post your entries. If it says "Guest" next to your comment where your avatar should be, we'll have no way of contacting you.

If you click this link and it takes you to your Veer Ideas profile page, then you're signed in. If you are signed into your Veer account but have yet to set yourself up with a Veer Ideas profile, you'll appear as a guest - in which case, clicking the link above will put you on track to setting that up.

If that still doesn't work for you, just drop me a note at ideas@veer.com with your name & email address and a link to your profile page, so we'll have a way to contact you if you win. Thanks!
