Looking for Typographica? A recent series of events involving a certain great white regulatory institution has caused the typographi.ca domain to be rather unceremoniously yanked off the air. While this situation is being resolved, Stephen Coles - proprietor of Typographica - would like to assure folks that he does indeed have a great aunt in Alberta so this misunderstanding should be cleared up shortly.
“
I thought that these restrictions only happened in sudamerica. :(

Some countries, like Germany, require a physical corporate presence before you can register a commercial domain within their jurisdiction. It's unfortunate that these 'authorities' operate with such a heavy hand. If they would actually take a minute to look beyond their binders full of criteria and regulations, and familiarize themselves with some of the sites they are targeting, they would see that it is beneficial to be culturally associated with the likes of Typographica and Airbag. Unfortunately, not all sites that sport the .ca TLD are as aesthetically pleasing or intellectually significant as the two aforementioned examples. Maybe those are the sites that should be getting shut down instead.

And now it seems that Typophile is down too.

Never fear Eduardo. I've seen that problem before. The Typophile database connection burps every once in a while and these errors start appearing. They're not gone, they're just malfunctioning temporarily.
On the bright side, Mr Coles seems to think that Typographica will "... be back up within the next two days. Probably tomorrow."
Good news, indeed.
”
“
Oh, good news.
And Typophile is back now.

Dave Shea offers some additional background and discussion regarding all of this .ca domain nonsense over at Mezzoblue.

Oh jeez. Pardon my mess.
”
“
Pardoned!

Gosh, both Typographica and Matthew Bardram reappear on the same day. It must have something to do with the Summer Solstice. Good news, regardless. Oh, and Stephen... since you always tidy up after my posts on Typographica, I figured I would return the favour.

I always wondered how Typographica was able to have a .ca name since it was not a Canadian based site. :)
”
“
Not too long ago he would not only have needed to prove residency, but he would also have needed to have a business with a physical presence in more than one province.
I liked Typographica, but since I'm a resident Canadian and have been pestered by the CIRA about my residency, I don't see why the rules should not apply to all.

Wow, I just popped over from Typographi.ca's dead URL, and here is an explanation.
Good luck Stephen.
