I seem to have developed a bit of a fascination with South American designers. The addition of Sudtipos faces to our Umbrella collection may have been the spark that's started this little flame. Poking around this morning I found this little Flash gem by Emiliano Rodriguez. Of course, the sharing of any South American goodness you happen to come across would be greatly appreciated!

Is it just me or was there a sudden surge of Brazilians on the internet in the last few months? On Orkut (a friendster clone) the invasion is most apparent — it seems 9 out of 10 of every community's most recent members are from Brazil.

I can't explain it either, but the numbers speak for themselves. Brazil boasts one of the highest internet usage growth curves in the Americas over the past few years. I haven't been able to locate any recent articles explaining this increase. Most of the data collected on Brazilian internet usage has an early Y2K expiration date.

I can't believe this article is already a year old: Brasil on Communication Arts.

Yo, Issa.
For starters, there is a wonderful two-part interview with Alejandro Lo Celso and Gabriel Martínez Meave by Jean François Porchez entitled The Latin Alphabet in Latin Hands. You will recognize some of Gabriel Martínez Meave's work, including the lively Arcana and structurally quirky Organica faces, both part of the Adobe library.
Still hungry? A fellow Canadian, Luc Devroye, maintains a dizzyingly extensive index of type resources, designers, and foundries - including pages dedicated to type scenes by country. Of particular interest will be the Argentine, Mexican and Chilean listings.
Whew.
