I've decided that this passage from John Sellers' new book Perfect From Now On: How Indie Rock Saved My Life, where the author reminisces on the 25th anniversary of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis' death, is the most perfect (and hilarious) insight into the mind of a fanboy ever written:
"Mount Helens erupted twenty-five years ago, Pacific time. When I was twenty or twenty-three and learned of this fact, there was no doubt in my mind that the volcano exploded to protest the death of Curtis. Now I think it was just a coincidence that the two events occurred on the same day. Maybe"
And, keeping with the indie rock fanboy spirit, anyone who disagrees with me just doesn't get it.
