A very special Lightboxing™ event is now playing. Grab a ringside seat for The Big Bout. See the contenders, critique their moves, disagree with the judges - just like real boxing. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Juanita Medwyduk, Matt Lyon, and Tomi Leskinen.
They resisted the obvious treatment of the images and explored the meaning of "My Place" with great design style.

Well, three images caught my attention at first pass, and first impressions...
I really liked the three dimensionality of Micah Bauer's image, getting inside that desparate guy's head...
I thought the sense of place was amazing in Evan Lindsay's piece, with the wooden desk and those photos scattered across it...
...and last but by no means least, Eric Toth's monochrome image with the neon and the girl on the billboard (maybe the couch was one step too many), totally got my attention.
Very cool. I didn't see the "contest", but my first reaction to the Lightbox was that the wood was a door.

Juanita Medwyduk has the best design.

I liked the one from Don Haugen the best. I guess living in a big city, I feel this way about place - one among millions yet also knowing that that spot there, that tiny spot is home.
I also like that he avoided the image of the man - which dominates most of the other designs - and says (to me at least) less about place and more about just being pensive.

I hope this becomes a longstanding tradition.

My favorite is Don Haugen's design. It has a lonely in a crowd feeling.
It is also very minimal, subtle and stark.
I hope to see another Big Bout again soon.

Give Matt Lyon a Stephen King book cover and let him go to town!

I like Alan Stedman's design the best!
TKO as far as I'm concerned!
