Speedy Bermudan license plates

On a recent trip to Bermuda I noticed a variety of cars with these speedy italic logo'd license plates. What's up with that – and why can't we get them in North America?

When I first saw the BMW and Volkswagen logos, I thought that maybe they were special car dealership plates. But the Chanel-branded plate really threw me for a loop. They must be some sort of “vanity” plate design. Here’s another plate I spotted on Flickr emblazoned with “Bones” … not the skateboard shop, methinks.
