Perspectives

Perspectives takes reading between the lines to a whole new level, and turns the traditional interview format on its head.

“…in Perspectives the interviewees don’t actually say anything. With the spoken portion of the footage edited out, Perspectives leaves only body language, pauses for thought, and interjections to do the communicating.”

In this case less is definitely more.

A hue or two for you to choose

Hue is one of the main properties of a color, and it is arguably difficult to create any good design without some understanding of color theory.

I stumbled across this online hue test the other day. Just drag and drop the colors into hue order and click for your score. Lower is better in this case.

Feel free to post your scores in the comments.

Library of Dust

BLDGBLOG recently updated with an entry about photographer David Maisel’s forthcoming book Library of Dust. A collection of photographs of an Oregon state psychiatric institution.

“In 1913, Maisel explained, an Oregon state psychiatric institution began to cremate the remains of its unclaimed patients. Their ashes were then stored inside individual copper canisters and moved into a small room, where they were stacked onto pine shelves.”

I’m amazed and enthralled at the variety and beauty of the mineral deposits that have accrued on the exterior of the canisters. I can’t look at the photo above without seeing a reflection of Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa

Mesmerizing 120 fps HD skateboarding video

A mesmerizing slow motion skateboard video over at Vimeo shot at 120 fps on the Red camera. I would love to get one of these cameras, but they're a little out of my price point. For now I'll leave it to folks like Peter Jackson.

Squintastic Speed Racer

Taking photomosaics to the next level, this artist has created a Speed Racer video mosaic. Using several thousand still frames from the film he/she created a photomosaic of every frame of the Speed Racer trailer and recombined them with the original audio to create a new video mosaic. The streaming version is pretty choppy, but the 120MB downloadable version is squintastic fun.

A truly delightful set of illustrations on Flickr by Danny Zabbal. A Mystery Menish collection of superheroes living their lives and getting things done - like shopping.

Passive-aggressive (and just plain aggressive) notes

When you’re mad as hell and you’re not going to take it anymore, it’s time for a politely worded note taped to the refrigerator.

Ranging from not so constructive criticism to openly hostile missives, Passive-aggressive notes is a delightful repository of not-so-silent fuming.
