Dance Dance Revolution

Uniqlock's new danceteria-minded website meshes subtle style with the hottest dance moves this side of a Tokyo arcade - and sells you way more than the plain polo t-shirts it's been designed to peddle. One of the coolest internet marketing schemes ever? Yes. Definitely. (And oh. There's longer dance routines every hour on the hour, easy enough to watch for days on end just to catch the changes).

Charley Harper: 1922-2007

Famed for his distinctive style and obvious influence on modern illustration, Charley Harper passed away this week in his home city of Cincinnati. The great Ward-O-Matic offers befitting, loving tribute.

Save McSweeney’s!

More than mere books, we've loved just about everything from McSweeney's since the beginning — The Skinny's Jon Parker even has one of those rare Lifetime Subscription dealios from the first issue (which he mentions from time to time — or whenever the opportunity arises, really). Since the late-2006 bankruptcy of David Eggers & Co.'s distributor, McSweeney's needed some emergency help of the financial variety. In dignified response, their online store features worthy cost-cutter deals and links to an array of McSweeney's rarities up for auction at eBay. An exciting opportunity to help - and collect.

K8

Dial tone

"Bruce Martin's K8 was the last red, cast iron telephone box ever to be constructed in the UK. As such it represents the final stage in the lineage of a design that has become nothing short of a global icon, a symbol of Britain." The Twentieth Century Society aims to protect the 12 remaining K8s (from an original 11,000) operating in the UK today - alongside countless other important, yet threatened, elements of Britain's visual landscape. "Please sir, can I have some more?"

Besides releasing a series of downloadble sweetheart bedroom folk on their record label, the decidedly English Spoilt Victorian Child blog does a lot more than merely self-promote. Recent posts of note include an analytical nod to Hot Butter's Popcorn, and archival video of Tim Buckley's rare appearance on The Monkees TV program. A nice tea break diversion indeed.

Cred off the hook

The Designers Mixtape invites creatives worldwide to "show us their musical taste." Cool music, fancy-pants cover designs, and the chance to think, "I'd so do better."

Life as pie

Flip Flop Flyin's website is always worth a visit, but creator Craig Robinson's new Personal Pies: An audit of my life so far page is one of his funniest bits yet.

Cake: Makes anyone feel better

It's a great week for music videos. Low's spooky new album Drums and Guns gives us Breaker, an example of doing a lot with very little. Who doesn't like a bit of cake with their misery?

Feist

Feist, all grown up

We've got a soft spot around these parts for indie chanteuse Feist. Not only are we from the same city, but a Veer staff member even played in Leslie Feist's first band, Placebo4. (Furthermore, one of my first all-ages punk shows was watching said band perform in a crummy little union hall just a couple of blocks away from Veer HQ). Feist's new video 1234 is one of those brilliant Broadway-musical-dance-numbers-done-by-amateurs-in-a-single-shot clips that, even though we've seen this sort of thing before, never gets boring to watch. That and she gets more bonus points than I can count on my fingers and toes for that outfit.
