Typography in advertising

The folks at CreativeBits have assembled an epic post full of type-driven advertising. It's a seemingly endless scroll of great executions, so you might want to give your eyes a rest somewhere around the middle, before the AwesomeCenter of your brain starts to hurt.

Veer at SXSW Interactive 2010

If you're in Austin, TX this week for SXSW Interactive, stop by the Veer both and say hello to a mix of folks from the Veer creative & marketing teams. There's a limited edition t-shirt you might want to get your hands on, and that's the place to do it.

We'll also be giving away FABULOUS PRIZES during the conference. To keep an eye on those announcements, follow @VeerUpdate on Twitter.

AND... if you love photos, type, strolling, interesting people, and beverages... grab your camera on Sunday and join Veer alum/founder Grant Hutchinson at the annual SXSW Found Type Photowalk.

FPM jiggly type

This might be a little old - I think it came out last december but check out Tomoyuki Tanaka's site for his FPM album release. Best damn media player I've seen for a while - title to the song jiggagles to the beat as it plays...That's some fantastic plastic machine!

The scribbler

Just read Mr.Doob's post on porting over Frank Ze's The Scribbler to javascript. I went through the javascript and was surprised to see how similar it was to AS3, and fast! I've had some people tell me Javascript is the 'new flash' ...don't know about that but check it out and then check out Frank Ze's

Buy “Coming Together”, support Haiti

In response to the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the Society of Typographic Aficionados issued a call to action to the typographic and design communities to participate in Font Aid IV. The result was Coming Together, an OpenType font that contains over 400 ampersand glyphs designed by participants from around the world.

All proceeds from the sale of the typeface go to Doctors Without Borders, in support of continuing relief efforts in Haiti. Get it here for just $20.

Everybody loves wallpapers

While others ply you with flowers and chocolate this sort-of-a-holiday weekend, we wanted to bring some loveliness to your desktops and devices with an assortment of free wallpapers.

This month, choose from ampersands, daily affirmations, and odes to the objects of your workplace affection.

The new “think before you speak”

Our own Joe Newton has teamed up with I Love Typography to create this limited edition print featuring Olduvai by Randy Johnson and a tidbit of modern wisdom.

“Google before you tweet is the new think before you speak.”

A limited edition of 100 were letterpressed by Woodside Press in Brooklyn, NY. You can nab one over at ILT for a very reasonable $15.

Typodarium font calendar

We've been hyping the Pentagram wall calendar lately and almost forgot to mention Typodarium, another great font/calendar for 2010.

Foundries and designers from all over the world were asked to contribute to the page-a-day project and the result is a desk-worthy daily dose of type from some of the best.

Among them you'll find some Veer favorites, including Eloquent (Jason Walcott), Oscilloscope (Luke Prowse), Adios and Miss Stephams (Alejandro Paul), Pilo Thin (Kenneth Pilo), and Pill Gothic (Christian Robertson).

BBC's Winter Olympics animation

Designer Jon Klassen has posted about his collaboration with Marc Craste & Studio AKA on their Winter Olympics ad for the BBC. Far flung from the Olympic norm, the animation shuns the usual bright colors and cheering crowds in favor of action, danger, and a wonderfully dark motif.
