Wooden you like a wooden Vespa?

Fashioned out of laminated hardwood by Portuguese craftsman Carlos Alberto, this scooter is based on a vintage Vespa that had fallen into complete disrepair. A new body was constructed out of steam bent veneers and carved wood. Even the seat is wood. Beware of splinters, and knock on wood that the frame is insulated from the engine when you're going 50 mph.

Board art

Australian design magazine Refill is curating Refill Seven, an exhibition of laser etched skateboard art. Board artist luminaries such as Pushead and Jim Phillips are among the 50 contributors. You can even buy a board, but take it easy on the grinds. If you can't make it to the show during its tour, here's some video and a Flickr photo set.

Bleeping brilliant

Meet the Thingamagoop. This little robot is an analog synthesizer with an oscillator controlled by a photocell sensor. In layperson's terms, it bleeps, bloops, whoops and burbles when you play with the controls and subject it to light sources. Check it out.

Type play

Based in the U.K., typographic designer and illustrator Craig Ward showcases his smart art on Words Are Pictures. Ranging from ligature experiments to album art work, typographic maps of cities to a typeface project based on smoke, Ward's work appeals to wordsmiths, designers and the type crazy alike.

77 drummers

Boredoms, Japan's preeminent avant-rock outfit, celebrated their 20th anniversary in New York City's Brooklyn Park Bridge on July 7, 2007 with a specially written piece titled "77 Drummers." 77 drummers, including indie rock luminaries such as Andrew WK and Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt, performed for 77 minutes while positioned in the form of the swirl in an ammonite's shell. Orchestrated chaos? You be the judge.
