Last night I got a call from a really-fun-to-work-for client to make a poster/flyer for a blacklight party. I am pleased with how this turned out in a somewhat relevant manner.
I am really getting into this 'retro' style. Posters are one of my favorite things to make.
If you have a sec, please tell me where this design could improve (its out the door to the printer, but for future reference).
(Hopefully this is worthwhile)
I have an assignment to paint a design. I was to create design that uses letters, shapes and five colors. I think I am going with this design.
While sketching thumbnails of other ideas, I kept trying to simplify the design. Finally, I decided to take my advice literally.
The lettering here was incredibly fun to draw and duplicate in illustrator. Now all I have to do is produce it with paint. I think taking steps away from the computer really helps put what design is really all about in perspective. Yeah, I used a computer, but I drew it first... the computer was to get the colors right. I should have veered away from the mouse all together.
A few weeks ago I stumbled onto idrawallday.com, the freelance design studio of Eric Smith (thanks to Veer). The fellow Washingtonian’s site exclaims Simplicity=Strength. I really like this idea and I don’t think it could be said better.
I made a desktop wallpaper. Maybe you’ll like it! Feel free to use it if you like.

I am in this Intro to Photography class and I'm lovin' it. I have some more of my work posted on Flickr. I have some digital photos, some slide film, and black & white.
Take a peek maybe.
Hello,
Since the new Veer Ideas is about sharing ideas, I thought I'd share some of mine in hopes of a little feedback.
I am a student/rookie designer, but I love playing with type .. its starting to seep into my body (and I like it). I've messed with making my own typefaces, but nothing too extravagant—still, I'd like some feedback.
Check out my new type portfolio. Let me know what you would change. And please, be blatantly honest.
Cheers!
Value (verb) value (noun). The late illustrator Andrew Loomis once said something to the effect of, "A color cannot be right until that value is right."
Lately I have been more and more drawn to the role value plays in color – especially as it relates to a lack of hue. I have been trying to use graphite more and more in my planning process. Value is key in that media. I have been trying to use my 35mm camera a little more too, and in developing those B&W photos, value cannot be ignored!
I am not an expert in value, but I like it. I hope as creatives, we can pay a little more attention to value.
