What's Gaucho? A savings-inspired community full of features and tips designed to help people save money.

The main feature of the site is the Gaucho Savings Stream (GSS), which is a real-time stream of the latest coupons and deals that are shared, chatted about and voted on by users from all over the Web. However, there are many other features and functions (chat boards, maps, etc.) that will keep any lead developer challenged and busy.

The Gaucho Team is made up of a unique assortment of talented and friendly individuals. We're located across North America. This is a telecommute position, so strong communication skills are vital.

This is a freelance/contract gig with the possibility of it eventually becoming full-time/permanent for the right fit. The lead developer will oversee 1 other developer. Compensation based on experience.

You are: detail-oriented, self-motivated problem solver. MUST be deadline-sensitive, an excellent communicator, passionate about working with new technologies, and above all, an expert developer. Your attention to design and usability is an attractive quality as well.

You're Skilled At:

1) HTML/CSS
This position does not require someone to write html or css directly but you should be capable of correctly selecting elements and know where to efficiently place code. HTML/CSS will be presented by a Front-End Developer.

2) Extensive Knowledge of JS/JQuery
We heavily use js to implement the client side validation and complex Ajax calls (eg: chat features).

3) Extensive Knowledge of Database/Sql
We are using SqlServer2005. Person should know and have experience with SqlServer2005 (At least SqlServer2000). Also needs to be able to write correct and efficient SQL sentences, plus be able to do pagination, indexing. creating tables. etc.

4) Extremely Knowledgeable and Experienced in ASP.NET2/C# Skills
Should know how to develop pages in C#. At least know what is aspx, ascx, generic handler, UserControl, DLL. And to organize all them efficiently to work on our pages.

Additional Skills (Not required for hire, but a BIG plus):

5) Understand WebService
6) Understand how scrape work
7) Understand RegularExpression
8) Understand how to write distributed program
9) Understand how to write Windows service
10) Jabber

The Gaucho chat feature uses Jabber. In the future, we will need a dev to interface our chat with MSN and other chat applications. Knowing how Jabber works being able to interface with platforms that don’t provide .NET support would be great.

 

Responsibilities:
This is a lead developer position that will be responsible for planning out the architecture for requested features, estimating timelines, managing junior developer, and leading implementations.

The lead developer will meet frequently with the founder/site architect and the design lead to discuss features, report on progress, and conduct quality assurance tests.
