Kern the Planet

In past summers, we asked for photographs of the places you took your summer activity books. This year, we gave you a sidekick for your summer adventures.

His name is Kernie. He loves type. A lot.

And he loved traveling with you — we can tell, because he’s all smiles in the gallery, which is full of your road trips, round-the-world trips, and trips around town. Kernie also made it to more than a few beaches, plus beach volleyball at the Olympics in Beijing.

And the winner is …

… Ian Hewitt-Woods, for his home-made Kernie lazing by a canal. For his epic effort, Ian received a $200US gift certificate for Veer merch. An honorable mention went to the runner-up, Stephanie Chrusz, for her aww-inducing entry.

By entering your images, you agreed that Veer may use them in its marketing pieces, including (but not limited to) web, e-mail, and print media.

How to play nice: The Veer Ideas Code

1. Try it!

You don’t have to be an expert. Browse a bit. See how it works. Then jump in.

2. Sharing is good

Veer Ideas is about your work, your ideas, your inspirations. So upload, post, and comment liberally. Tag stuff so people can find it. The more you share the more we’ll all benefit.

3. Be nice, be respectful, be constructive

Pretend you’re speaking face-to-face. Accept that not everything will be to your taste. Explain why you don’t like something, or how it might be better. Don’t just diss.

4. Keep it creative

Veer Ideas is a wide-ranging place. Anything to do with creative inspiration, creative people, design, advertising, media, that kind of thing, is fair game. Stuff outside that might be really interesting too - but please, post it elsewhere.

5. Respect copyrights. Give credit.

Basically: Don’t steal, misrepresent, or be sneaky. If in doubt, don’t. (It’s all in the Terms of Use.) Credit your fellow creators. Don’t steal their spotlight - help them shine.

6. Don’t advertise, spam, or scam

Show how creative you are, but don’t blatantly promote yourself, your products, or anyone else’s. You know what we mean. For details check the Terms of Use.

7. Think of the children
